Spring and Summer 2017
Hello from the Ljuba Davis Ladino Ensemble!
The band members perform regularly throughout New York and the East Coast. Be sure to check them out.
Ljuba is in cantorial school, performing and enjoying time with family and friends. Her newest granddaughter Natalie was born April 8, 2017.
New material is in the works and we hope to share with our fans soon.
Two songs from our instrumental CD to be featured in a new documentary!
"There are Jews Here" - This quirky and poignant documentary examines the challenges of Jewish life in small-town America. Focusing on four tiny Jewish communities, the directors examine what happens to a congregation when there are scarcely enough Jews left to form a quorum for religious activities.
“One of the elements that I love is that it’s unusual for people to hear Ladino,” said Davis. “I love it all — the music, the liturgy, the language. It’s in my pores.” (JTA)
"The ensemble’s diversity reflects the nature of the Ladino language, which originated in Spain before the Inquisition and was spoken throughout Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, North Africa and beyond." (JTA)
"Sephardic folk music never sounded better than this collection of Ladino tunes in vocal AND instrumental versions by Ljuba Davis and her supporting team." (JAZZ WEEKLY)
